Environmental DesignCedarlane Mural
Cedarlane RV Resort
Project roles: Environmental Graphic Design, Illustration, Mural Design & Execution, Creative Direction, Spatial Design
Project timeline: Two months
A large-scale mural, 10 ft × 19 ft, for Cedarlane RV Resort that transforms the space into a visual narrative of the surrounding Port Clinton experience.
Problem
While Cedarlane RV Resort offers strong accommodations and amenities, it lacks distinct visual characteristics that elevate the space beyond its functional value.
As a destination built around short-term stays, the resort also lacked a clear visual connection to the surrounding Port Clinton area—missing an opportunity to reinforce the experiences, attractions, and memories that define the location.
Without a cohesive visual presence, the environment functioned effectively but failed to leave a lasting impression.
Concept
The mural was designed to bridge audiences: introducing new visitors to the character of the area while reflecting familiar landmarks and shared experiences for returning seasonal residents.
By embedding local references such as Cedar Point, Perry’s Monument, and various lighthouses into the visual language, the mural becomes both a point of discovery and recognition.
Outcome / Impact
The mural transforms the space into a visual anchor that reflects the identity of Port Clinton, Ohio.
By highlighting local landmarks and shared experiences, it reinforces a sense of place and gives visitors an immediate connection to the activities and memories associated with their stay.
Reflection
This project pushed my work beyond digital design, requiring the translation of a concept into a large-scale physical environment.
Working with a client introduced real-world constraints and collaboration, while the process integrated multiple disciplines—graphic design, illustration, and spatial thinking. Projection mapping became essential for accurately scaling and transferring the design.
Both physically and time demanding, the project reinforced the importance of preparation, adaptability, and execution in bringing a concept to life.
Approach
The mural combines illustration and environmental storytelling to reflect the character of Port Clinton, Ohio.
Developed a sunset-based composition using Cedarlane’s brand colors to establish mood and cohesion, contrasted to the waterfront of the area
Illustrated recognizable landmarks and attractions from the Port Clinton area, including the Jet Express, regional lighthouses, and Cedar Point
Structured the composition to guide the viewer across the landscape, reinforcing a sense of exploration and movement
Designed for visibility at scale, ensuring clarity from a distance while maintaining detail up close
Executed the mural by hand, adapting the design to the physical space and surface conditions
